Anze Lanisek wins at Holmenkollen

Team World-Champion Anze Lanisek from Slovenia won the first competition of the weekend at Holmenkollen in Oslo on Saturday. Lanisek prevailed on Oslo’s HS 134-meter hill ahead of Austria’s Stefan Kraft and Karl Geiger of Germany.

“My first jump today was good, the second was then outstanding, everything really fit together. And I also had the conditions on my side today, today I’m really happy and satisfied with my performance, I hope I can continue at this level” explained Lanisek for whom it was the fifth success in a World Cup competition. Lanisek now leads the RAW AIR overall ranking after three rounds ahead of Stefan Kraft from Austria and Dawid Kubacki from Poland. Kubacki had won the qualification yesterday, but did not finish higher than ninth place today.

Stefan Kraft is Lanisek’s fiercest pursuer in the RAW AIR overall standings
“I think it was a great competition today. My first jump was very good, then in the second jump I had a small mistake on the take-off, I have to be a bit calmer tomorrow. We’ll see what’s possible tomorrow, I’m sure it will be another great competition,” said Kraft, who has already won the RAW AIR overall ranking twice.

Kraft is only 2,5 points behind Lanisek in the RAW AIR overall ranking

Behind Kraft, the best German athlete, Karl Geiger, placed third: “I am really happy to be on the podium again, especially my second jump felt great”, said Geiger, who is in 7th place in the RAW AIR overall ranking after his third place in today’s competition, keeping all chances for a RAW AIR top ranking alive.
Likewise for local hero Halvor Egner Granerud in fourth place, still good chances for the Worldcup-leader. Granerud is only 0.2 points behind Dawid Kaubacki on rank 4 of RAW AIR.

Andreas Wellinger from Germany was convincing in 5th place after overcoming a cold, Ryoyu Kobayashi was 6th in the Holmenkollen daily ranking.
The second competition at Holmenkollen starts on Sunday at 16:30.

In the overall World Cup Halvor Egner Granerud is still leading with now 1702 points ahead of Dawid Kubacki (1388) and day winner Anze Lanisek (1196).
