BKFC UK Newcastle: results and recap

Newcastle, United Kingdom: Bare Knuckle Fighting Champion (BKFC), The World’s Fastest Growing Combat Sports Promotion, triumphantly returned to the United Kingdom with an outstanding sold-out event on Saturday night at the Walker Activity Dome in Newcastle headlined by a heavyweight clash between Mick Terrill and Steve Banks.

Fighting in a BKFC Heavyweight World Title Eliminator, Terrill started off strong landing right hands early in the first stanza against the southpaw Banks. Backing Banks up with massive power shots, Terrill continued to score with both hands.

Terrill continued the assault in the second round using mostly battering right hands, bloodying Banks who was cut badly above the right eye. At the end of the stanza, the ringside physician stopped the bout due to the severity and multitude of Banks’ cuts.

With the victory Terrill, (8-1), earned an opportunity for the BKFC Heavyweight World Title while the valiant Banks falls to 3-1.

Co-featured for the BKFC UK Cruiserweight Title, UK natives Anthony Holmes and Darren Hendry engaged in a robust clash. Following an even first round, Hendry with his superior athleticism, would take control landing a series of power shots. Holmes would turn the tables, controlling the action in the third round against the more defensive Hendry. Opening the fourth stanza, Holmes landed a huge right-hand dropping Hendry as the fight was stopped at the 0:29 mark of the round.

Winning the BKFC UK Cruiserweight Title, Holmes improved to 4-0-1 while Hendry moved to 5-1.

Fighting in the middleweight division, Danny Christie stopped Darren Godfrey from a barrage of hooks and uppercuts at 1:07 of the first round.

In the super lightweight division, Liam Wilson knocked out Will Cairns  with a right hook to the body, the stoppage coming in the second round (0:54).

In a spirited battle that had the crowd roaring throughout, John Ferguson won a unanimous decision over Tom Scott in the super middleweight division. Judge’s scores were 49-46 three times.

Cruiserweight Lee Browne knocked out Billy Hawthorne in the second round (0:35) with a blistering right hand.

Rounding out the main card, Nathan Owens won a unanimous decision over David Round by scores of 50-44, 50-44, 49-45 in the super middleweight division.

Headlining the free prelims, lightweight Lewis Keen stopped Lewy Sherriff in the third stanza (1:08). The game Sherriff was dropped three times in round two and three more in round three before the stoppage as the southpaw Keen displayed tremendous one punch power.

Fighting in an excellent two-way battle featuring BKFC debuts, female bantamweight Melanie Shah defeated Mathilda Wilson by split decision.

Scores were 48-47, 48-47 and 46-49

Opening the show in the heavyweight division Agi Faulkner landed numerous right uppercuts against Daniel Robson resulting in a first-round stoppage (1:17).
