Brazil Snow Sports Federation to develop the Nordic sports in South America with 2 Rollerski events

The Brazilian Snow Sports Federation (CBDN) in a partnership with the Norwegian Ski Federation organized a South American Ski coaches education course in São Carlos, a city 250 km from São Paulo. Ingunn Fossmellem and Espen Rognli, from the Norwegian Ski Federation, were the course leaders and the event gathered 25 coaches from five countries.

The four-day course included theoretic and practical activities held in the São Carlos Federal University (UFSCar) and Parque Eco Esportivo Damha, respectively. The focus of the course was youth sports development with rollerskis and Cross Country Skiing.

The Brazilian Federation has been carrying out ongoing education for Cross Country Skiing coaches for five straight years, and in 2022, the goal was to offer this opportunity to coaches from all over South America, aiming to develop the sport on the continent. In addition to the Brazilian coaches, coaches from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador were present.

“This was another important step for the Brazilian Federation within its strategic plan for Cross Country and Para Cross Country Skiing, aiming to raise the level of the sport on the continent. We are very happy with the success of this first edition.”, said Pedro Cavazzoni, CEO & Head of the Technical Department of the federation.

“We were able to learn more about the Norwegian sports system and made several comparisons with our reality, always trying to think of improvements that we can adapt to our program.”, commented Camila Freitas, Technical Coordinator of the Brazilian Federation.

The education course was held between the stages of the 2022 Brazilian Rollerski Circuit, at Parque EcoEsportivo Damha. Events for the youth were also part of the Circuit. Besides a few competitions for young athletes, the 2022 circuit also saw the firest-ever Rollerski Festival during the third stage, with 50 youngsters supported by the FIS SnowKidz program.

The event series is a major piece of the Brazilian strategy to develop and promote Cross Country Skiing not only in Brazil but at South America in general. The Brazilian Snow Sports Federation offered food & lodging to the best South American athletes of each nation to strengthen the event. Athletes from Brazil, Boliva, Chile, and Ecuador took part in the races.

In total, more than 100 people from 4 different nations took part on the races, education course and sports activities organized by the Brazilian federation between October 13th and October 24th.

The results of these last two stages also defined the Brazilian Rollerski Circuit Overall winners. On the men’s side, the Olympian Victor Santos finished the 2022 edition at the first place and in women’s competition the also Olympian Eduarda Ribera led the overall standings after 4 stages and 12 races.
