Calgary Roughnecks Fall to Colorado Mammoth 9-7

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Roughnecks fell to the Colorado Mammoth 9-7 Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome in their NLL Conference Final matchup.

Jeff Cornwall opened the scoring for Calgary with a shorthanded goal just 49 seconds into the game, before Eli McLaughlin tied things up for Colorado seconds later on the same powerplay. Both teams battled to take the lead in a back and forth first half, with Calgary down 5-6 going into the halftime break.

Calgary kept Colorado scoreless through the third whilst adding two goals from Tanner Cook and Shane Simpson to regain a one goal lead, however the Mammoth battled back in the final frame and added three goals while keeping the Roughnecks scoreless, to take the game 9-7.

Calgary’s goals came from across the lineup tonight, with seven different players adding to the tally. Haiden Dickson finished the night first in points for the team with three (1g, 2a). Zach Currier scooped 14 loose balls whilst also adding a goal and an assist. Christian Del Bianco made 28 saves from 36 shots on goal, with the Roughnecks outshooting the Mammoth 39-37.

With the loss tonight, Calgary does not advance in the 2022-23 NLL Playoffs. The Roughnecks finish the 2022-23 National Lacrosse League season with a 13-5 record in the regular season, and second overall in the West Division.
