Leeds transfer news: Two deals collapse despite player flying to UK as Spurs talks advance | Football | Sport

Leeds are facing further frustration in their attempts to land new arrivals for Daniel Farke after deals for Genk winger Joseph Paintsil and Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri hit the rocks. The Whites have overseen a mass clear-out at Elland Road but things are finally looking up following the impressive 4-3 victory on the road at Ipswich this weekend.

Now Leeds chiefs are determined to make the final days of the transfer window count following a string of high-profile exits.

Talks had looked promising with Genk for Paintsil but the move has now broken down after negotiations failed to bear fruit.

Leeds had made an £8.5million offer for the Ghanaian including add-ons but Genk haggled over the fee.

Instead they sent a counter-offer which exceeded Leeds’ initial valuation of the forward.

That has since prompted Leeds to walk away from the table while Paintsil, who initially looked ready to move to Yorkshire, now seems poised to remain in Belgium.

Southampton had also tried to strike a swap deal involving Paul Onuachu but neither player was interested in the move.

There is a small chance talks could be revived but as things stand, the deal is currently off.

As for Amiri, he was in the UK on Monday with his representatives for face-to-face talks with Leeds.

But he has since returned to Germany after failing to agree terms with the Championship club.

Leeds had agreed a £5m deal with Bayer Leverkusen for the midfielder but the transfer has now stalled and looks unlikely barring a drastic turnaround.

However, the Whites are now the frontrunners to land Djed Spence on loan from Tottenham.

Spence is no longer part of Spurs’ plans and Ange Postecoglou is ready to offload the youngster as he bids to trim down his squad.

The wing-back has also attracted interest from Italy but Leeds are in formal talks to land the former Middlesbrough man on an initial loan.

Leeds have already signed Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham this summer and now Spence could follow the Welshman to Elland Road.

Coincidentally, both players spent time together on loan in France at Stade Rennes last season.
