Uncasville, CT – Sun point guard, Natisha Hiedeman, made her overseas season debut on Monday, December 12 with Maccabi Ashdod (Israel). Hiedeman led Maccabi Ashdod in scoring in a 70-68 win over Elitzur Ramla with 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Jonquel Jones, DeWanna Bonner and CBK Mersin defeated Spar Girona, 64-50, in their EuroLeague matchup of the week on Wednesday, December 14. J. Jones finished with a double-double, tallying 11 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks. Bonner added eight points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal in the win. Later in the week, J. Jones, Bonner and CBK Mersin picked up an 83-60 win over Rize. Bonner led her team with 21 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal. J. Jones tallied 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists and one block.
Alyssa Thomas, Brionna Jones and USK Prague picked up another EuroLeague win on Wednesday, December 15 over Olympiacos, 95-63. B. Jones finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and one steal. Thomas added five points, along with 11 rebounds, 11 assists and two steals in the team’s fourth EuroLeague victory of the season. To close out the week, Thomas, B. Jones and USK Prague defeated Zabiny Brno, 106-63, on Sunday, December 18. Thomas notched her second triple-double of the season with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists and five steals. B. Jones finished with 23 points, two rebounds, three assists, five steals and one block on the day.
Joyner Holmes and Sassari defeated the BA London Lions, 82-75, in their EuroCup matchup on Thursday, December 15. Holmes led her team with a double-double, notching 18 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, one steal and one block. On Sunday, December 18, Holmes and Sassari dropped an Italian League contest to Virtus Bologna, 88-52. Holmes finished with 18 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal in the effort.
Connecticut Sun players are back in overseas action this week beginning with Hiedeman, Maccabi Ashdod playing Ramat Hasharon at 10:00 AM ET on December 19. Thomas, B. Jones and USK Prague take on Virtus Bologna at 2:30 PM ET on December 21. On December 22, Hiedeman and Maccabi Ashdod play Maccabi Urban at 12:00 PM ET; and Bonner, J. Jones and CBK Mersin play Mechelen at 2:30 PM ET. Holmes and Sassari match up against Schio at 2:30 PM ET on December 23. On December 25, J. Jones, Bonner and CBK Mersin take on Ormanspor at 8:00 AM ET. To close out the week of overseas play, Hiedeman and Maccabi Ashdod match up against Hapoel Petah Tikva at 12:00 PM ET on December 26.
