Report: Commanders signing Daron Payne to four-year, $90M deal
The Washington Commanders have reportedly agreed to a four-year, $90 million deal with star defensive tackle Daron Payne, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
The deal, once official, makes Payne the second highest paid defensive tackle in NFL history behind the Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald.
Payne’s contract will include a guaranteed $60 million according to the reports.
The Commanders placed the franchise tag on Payne back on Feb. 28, as the first team to do so this offseason.
Drafted by Washington in 2018 as the 13th overall pick, Payne earned his first Pro Bowl selection during the 2022 season. In 81 career games, he’s recorded 26 sacks, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and an interception.
