Stingers Release Protected Players List

September 6, 2023 – Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) – Edmonton Stingers News Release

EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Stingers of the CEBL have officially released their 2023 Protected Player List for next season. This option allows the team exclusive rights to re-sign the selected players before 2024 free agency begins.

“We really like this group,” said Stingers general manager Steve Sir. “They are good players and good people committed to doing things the right way on and off the court. They are a strong foundation that we will work hard to continue to build around. Stingers fans can look forward to familiar faces next summer in the Hangar!”

The list is headlined by veterans Adika Peter-McNeilly and Brody Clarke, who have played 5 and 4 seasons with the Stingers respectively. Forward and Edmonton native Aher Uguak has also received protected status after his second season with the team.

First year Stingers Nick Hornsby and Isiah Osborne also appear on the list; Hornsby led the team in rebounding (8.6 per game) while Osborne’s 13.2 points per game ranked second on the team behind Clarke.

Guards Elijah Miller – who was a U SPORTS Player of the Year candidate before suffering a season ending injury on July 5th – Munis Tutu and Lucas Williamson round out the protected list.

Free agency will begin early 2024. Stingers Season Seat memberships are available online or through the Stingers head office (tickets@thestingers.ca).
